Just a little awkward

Sometimes I get the urge to write, usually it starts in my head, some sort of monologue and then it occurs to me that maybe I should write it down. But I usually get distracted or realise I’m supposed to be doing something else, and decide not to procrastinate by writing. This year, I’ve made a list of short term and long term goals. One of my short term goals is to try to write something, anything, at least once week.

Testing out our new home

Over the summer we were living in our van in a campsite, here in France. Matthew was lifeguarding for about 4 months, so we set up camp, put up a storage / food tent next to us (which the squirrels spent all summer destroying) and we lived in our van.

Basque Country Adventure

Having moved to France a couple of months ago, Matthew and I have been adapting to living in our van - and loving it! I'm not exaggerating when I say that it's always been my dream to have a van and to call it home...when I was younger I definitely imagined owning a VW camper but our Ford Transit is everything I've ever hoped for and is definitely a better fit!

Dealing with Doubt

This post is a little different from previous ones. I actually wrote it about 6 months ago, but didn't have the guts at that time to post it. I wasn't sure if I was writing out of pain or if what I had to say would hurt people.

Môr Glas

Almost a year ago, my friend Hamish approached me with an idea to work together on a project, with support from Ben Martin who runs Johnny on the Spot. We decided to exhibit our work and to create a coffee table book filled with my illustrations and Hamish's photographs of our time spent on the Gower.

Love amongst the thorns

For the past year I've been working on a project with my mum. She is pretty much the most inspiring, encouraging and creative woman I know...my hero (I grew up hearing my dad refer to my mum as his hero, I loved this)

Wales - Exploring and appreciating

This is a collaborative post with two pretty amazing people. I created the map, Hamish took the beautiful photo's and Matthew did the brilliant doodles which I edited onto the photographs. Working with people is fun and seeing what we can create together is really rewarding!

Cafes, I love you. Like, a lot.

There are lots of reasons why I love going to cafes, get excited when I see a new one or long for one when they're lacking. Not for the most obvious reasons though (coffee & cake). These are pretty valid, but not really mine.

Slowing down

A few months ago, just before going for a surf, Matthew met a guy called Djo Djokkos. A really talented wildlife photographer who wanted to know more about the sea. So, Matthew explained a little about how the ocean works and Djo then filmed him and created a little edit. This led to Matthew and I being invited to spend some time with Djo and his girlfriend Emilie in Ariege, a department in the Midi - Pyrenees region.

Monica

Last summer when Matthew was lifeguarding in France, his boss, Vincent, gave him a broken surf board called Monica (named after the Italian actress, Monica Bellucci). Vincent had already fixed her up a little bit, put in fins and made her surf able.

Difference

I wanted to paint something with meaning, not just a pretty picture but a piece that would express how I feel right now about what's going on in the UK and across the world (let's be honest-it's crap!)

Margam Expedition

Amidst the socio-economic tension surrounding the future of the steel-works, Rosie, Hamish and I took advantage of the long strech of beach that nobody was talking about.

Rosie and the boys

This time last year Matthew and I went on our first road trip together, with two friends, Hannah and Anna. (3 Girls, 1 boy ... Matthew coped well) We borrowed Matthews parents car and drove from France to Portugal, wild camping along the way.

2 girls. 2 weeks. 2 surfboards.

In the many months leading up to summer, a lot of my time was spent daydreaming, procrastinating and basically longing for a summer surf trip. On particularly cold, wet and windy days I would send messages to my friend, Megan, who would reply with similar dreams of surfing somewhere warm and with good waves.

Build your own

It's a pretty good feeling to build or repair something yourself and then enjoy using it! What's even better, is when you can do so with friends and by using recycled materials.
